Conservative management frontrunner Liz Truss has denied that she has been modelling herself on former prime minister Margaret Thatcher.
The overseas secretary instructed comparisons to the previous Tory chief had been sexist and mentioned it was “frustrating that female politicians always get compared to Margaret Thatcher”.
She was questioned in regards to the comparisons in interviews on Thursday after some famous similarities between her outfit on the first Tory management debate and a glance worn by Margaret Thatcher in 1979.
The overseas secretary, who took half within the Channel 4 occasion final week, opted for a black blazer over a white shirt that includes a bow tie element throughout the neck.
Thatcher wore a strikingly related outfit on the time made up of a white shirt that tied in a big bow on the neck, underneath a black blazer.
One tweet, which garnered greater than 17,500 likes, mentioned: “Liz Truss has recreated Margaret Thatcher’s appearance from her 1979 election broadcast down to the last detail.”
Ms Truss criticised the comparisons saying: “It is quite frustrating that female politicians always get compared to Margaret Thatcher, whereas male politicians don’t get compared to Ted Heath,” she instructed GB News.
It has been instructed that Ms Truss has deliberately cultivated comparisons with the previous Conservative prime minister however she rebuffed such feedback.
“I think we need to equalise the scales,” she joked.
And she instructed BBC Radio 4’s Today programme: “I am my own person.
“I’m from a really completely different background. I grew up in Yorkshire. I went to a complete college. I’m any individual who has labored all my life to get issues executed. And that is what I wish to do within the job.”
It is just not the primary time the general public has drawn comparisons between Ms Truss and Thatcher. In November 2021, Truss donned navy gear to pose in a military tank whereas visiting British troops in Estonia.
The images had been rapidly likened to photographs of Thatcher within the driving seat of a Challenger Tank at a Nato coaching camp in Germany in 1986.
In February, Truss was photographed sporting a black spherical fur hat with matching coat throughout a visit to Moscow. Thatcher wore an analogous outfit – a brown coat with fur trim and brown fur hat – throughout a visit to Russia in 1987.
Meanwhile former chancellor, Rishi Sunak, mentioned he “will govern as a Thatcherite” after going through repeated criticism from the Tory proper for wanting to carry off on tax cuts till after inflation is underneath management.
Mr Jenrick, the previous housing minister and Sunak backer who will likely be hoping for a return to cupboard, instructed BBC Radio 4’s Today programme: “It is the antithesis of Thatcherism to be going around making unfunded tax pledges merely to win a leadership contest.”
